Living the Great Commission

Based on Matthew 28:16–20

His resurrection, Jesus gathered His disciples on a mountain in Galilee and gave them a mission that still shapes the Church today. In Matthew 28:16–20, often called the Great Commission, Jesus sends His followers into the world with a purpose: to make disciples, share His love, baptize, teach, and live as witnesses to God’s grace.

What makes this moment so powerful is that Jesus speaks these words to ordinary people. The disciples were not perfect. Matthew tells us that even there, standing before the risen Christ, some worshiped while others doubted. Yet Jesus still called them. He still trusted them with His mission.

That same invitation belongs to us.

Being part of Christ’s mission doesn’t always mean traveling far or standing before large crowds. Sometimes it looks like offering kindness to a neighbor, listening to someone who is hurting, serving a meal, helping a family in need, or speaking words of hope to someone struggling. Every act of love becomes a witness to the God who first loved us.

Jesus reminds us that this work is not done alone. His final words are a promise: “And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Wherever we go—through joy, uncertainty, ministry, and everyday life—Christ walks beside us.

As a church, we are called to live this mission together: growing in faith, sharing compassion, welcoming others, and reflecting God’s love in our community. The Great Commission is not simply a command; it is an invitation to trust that God can work through ordinary people to do extraordinary things.

Where is God calling you to share hope today?
